Wise Promises Sharks Baptism Of Fire
Mathare United skipper George “Wise” Owino has termed Sunday’s Slum Derby “a must win” to rekindle hopes for a top four finish at the end of the season.
Francis Kimanzi’s charges will be looking to snap an eight match winless run against nemesis Kariobangi Sharks who have beaten them twice in the Derby.
They will however draw inspiration from the visitors who have had a rut of their own; picking four points in the last five.
“Both teams are having a poor run and this makes it an open game. There is no favorite but we are going to approach it as a must win to make our chances of finishing in the top four realistic.
“There is a small gap between us and the teams above. If we bounce back to winning ways we can easily rise to second place,” assessed Owino.
Wise, who has played in the biggest Derby in the region (The Dar es Salaam Derby) pitting Yanga against Simba, believes bagging maximum points in the Derby will turn around our fortunes.
“Winning a derby is a big motivation because it improves your confidence and encourages you to win matches. We showed a lot of improvement in our last match and we want to build on that,” he added.
Kimanzi is yet to tirumph over his apprentice William Muluya in the Derby having settled for a one all draw in the first leg. Sharks beat Mathare in both legs last season.
