Salim delighted with goals distribution within the squad

Klinsman Omulanga has come off the bench twice to score with his goals earning Mathare United four points this season. He ensured a share of the spoils against Tusker on matchday 2 before netting a late winner against Sony Sugar on matchday 9

As the squad prepares for the midweek clash against Sofapaka this Wednesday head coach Salim Ali has taken the time to speak on his team’s attacking flair especially the goals which have been spread out across the striking department.

The team has so far not been dependent on one player for the goals with Clifford Alwanga (2), Kevin Kimani (2), Klinsman Omulanga (2), new signing Daniel Otieno (2), David Owino (1) and captain Chris Oduor (1) all chipping in on the 11 goals that Mathare have notched up this season with the other goal coming via an own-goal in the round 5 tie against Wazito FC.

This has Salim delighted as he believes the attacking options within the squad are a sign of growth.

He said, “We are gradually moving towards our full potential. This squad if full of talent and to have an attack that has so many options is a big plus for us.

“We create chances even in the games that we have not been able to score and I have said this before that any team that is capable of that has their chances of winning a game significantly boosted.”

Salim also singled out Omulanga and Otieno for high praise as they have taken the chances that have been granted to them to make an impression.

“Van Persie (Otieno) is catching on quite quickly and in just two starts has managed two goals. Also Klinsman is proving his worth. He is a hard worker and I am happy that he scored against Sony especially that dramatic winner. It will for sure boost his confidence because sometimes when you don’t score as a forward your confidence drops a bit.

“But the squad as a whole is doing well and the signs are there that plenty is yet to come,” Salim enthused.

Still undefeated and with four wins out of the nine matches they have played, Salim will be hoping that his side looks sharp against Sofapaka, a team that also has a potent strike force that ranks 4th in the league with 14 goals scored.
