Opiyo backs Kioko for clean sheet against Muhoroni

Levis Opiyo believes Mark Kioko will impress on his debut for the club on Saturday when we take on Muhoroni Youth in a crucial Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match at the Ruaraka Stadium.

Opiyo is unavailable for this encounter as well as the last game against Posta Rangers due to suspension after he picked a booking in their last outing against Nzoia Sugar to accumulate five yellow cards. With Wycliffe Kasaya still out injured, rookie Mark Kioko will start in between the sticks tomorrow.

Kioko, who is yet to make his debut for the club, joined the club in January 2017 after impressing in a talent search organized by Betway last year that earned him a trip to English Premier League (EPL) side West Ham United.

With Muhoroni Youth already relegated, we ought to pick maximum points from this fixture to enhance our chances of survival. Despite the pressure surrounding this match, Opiyo is confident that his understudy will deliver.

“I have played most of the matches this season but it has not been easy. Kasaya and Kioko have really pushed me in training and the competition in this department has been very healthy. We are three good goalkeepers.

“Kioko has learnt a lot from us. It is time for him to show that he can also step up and do a good job for the team. We have been defending very well recently and I know he can maintain our clean sheet record,”

Victory against Muhoroni Youth will take our tally to 38 points and closer to safety pending other Round 33 results.
