Mathare United midfielder Francis Omondi is relishing the challenge of coming up against the experienced duo of Jerry Santos and Osborne Monday in the Round 11 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clash against Posta Rangers on Sunday.

Omondi, who joined the club in January, has established himself as a regular in the team starting all the ten matches played so far and found the net four times through expertly taken penalties against Sofapaka, Nzoia Sugar, AFC Leopards and Nakumatt.

Family feel

“I have settled very well because of the environment in this team. Everybody from the players, technical bench and the management has been very supportive and this is more like a family,” said Omondi.

The youngster has excelled as an impregnable shield to the back four and his impressive displays at the center of the park have caught the eye of National team selectors. A litmus test presents itself in the midfield pair of Monday and Santos but Omondi is not losing sleep over it.

Language

“They are more experienced than me but football is a language. If you understand the language then it becomes very easy to play,” added Omondi with a hint of arrogance.

Gelled

“I am confident that I will do well against them. It will be a tough game but we have trained well. We have gelled as a team and I expect us to continue scoring goals as we have done in the last ten matches. Hopefully we will come out with a win,” underlined the stocky midfielder.
