Nyakeya stars in Sofapaka stalemate

Mathare United midfielder Cliff Nyakeya (right) races past Sofapaka defender Titus Achesa during their Kenyan Premier League match at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos on Sunday, April 28, 2019. Both sides settled for a 2-2 draw.

Cliff Nyakeya scored a brace as Mathare United twice rallied from behind to hold Sofapaka to a 2-2 draw at Kenyatta Stadium on Sunday.

Umaru Kasumba opened the scoring in the 47th minute after controlling a lobbed pass from Elli Asieche and slotting past Allan Owiny. Then Nyakeya leveled six minutes later to complete a brilliant team move that saw Chrispin Oduor tee him up for a shot.

Kasumba completed his brace on 58 minutes after beating the offside trap to latch onto a through pass from Waruru, raced towards goal, skipped past Owiny and slotted into an empty net.

Again, Oduor was the provider for Nyakeya. The Mathare United skipper found Nyakeya with a cutback and the youngster did not disappoint thumping home to restore parity.

The draw leaves us fifth with 40 points.
