Kimani eager to open his account against Tusker

Mathare United midfielder Kevin Kimani works on his freekick technique during training at the Goan Institute grounds on Thursday, September 12, 2019 ahead of the Kenyan Premier League match against Tusker on Saturday, September 14, 2019.

Mathare United midfielder Kevin Kimani believes Saturday’s match against Tusker at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos will be decided by fine margins.

Kimani, who will lead the Slum Boys in the absence of skipper Chrispin Oduor, will be relied on heavily in attack as Salim Ali seeks his first win of the season.

However, Kimani insists it will take a collective team effort to secure maximum points against the brewers who lost 5-2 in the season opener against Gor Mahia.

Mental strength

“I expect a very tough game since both teams have quality players and they will all be looking for a win. The mental aspect will play a big role and it is important that we utilize our chances,” said Kimani.

The diminutive midfielder was unlucky not to score in Round One against Bandari and he is looking forward to lead from the front when he locks horns with his former employers.

“Set-pieces are my speciality and I always put a lot of work in training. I’ll be happy to score when the chance arises since the first goal will give us a huge advantage,” he added.

After spending majority of the second leg of last season on the sidelines due to injury, Kimani says he is in good shape to play a leading role this term.

“I had a good preseason which helped me in my recovery. I want to score as many goals as possible this season and emerge as the best midfielder in the country,” offered Kimani.
