Hungry Mwaura eyeing Homeboyz scalp
After enduring sixteen matches without a goal, Daniel Mwaura has trained his sights on ending the first leg on a high with victory over Kakamega Homeboyz in the Round 17 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match to be played on Saturday 27 July at the Mumias Sugar Complex.
Mwaura, 23, has been a regular in Francis Kimanzi’s side for the entire first leg but the goal scoring aspect of his game has been conspicuously missing this season. Despite Kakmega Homeboyz boasting the best defence in the league, that has only conceded 9 goals in 16 matches, Mwaura is eager to break his duck against them.
“I am really concerned by what has been happening because I have not achieved my targets for the first leg. I have been getting chances but I have not been converting them. I want to work hard this weekend and score,” revealed the Kenyan international.
The speedy winger has played a key role in the team’s improved showing after the midseason break that has seen them keep three clean sheets on the trot. However he believes it is time they end the string of barren draws with an invaluable away win.
“We have been playing very well away from home this season and it is important we win this game. We have prepared very well and the mood in camp is very positive. We will do our best to get the three points because we really need them to improve our position,” added a buoyant Mwaura.
His rallying call to the fans ahead of the trip to Mumias also harbored the promise of better results in upcoming matches starting this weekend.
“I want to urge the fans to keep supporting us because we need them to keep going. We made good signings in June and they have had a positive impact. We have been playing very well lately. It’s just that we have not been getting the results but as a team we are committed to getting wins starting this weekend,” concluded Mwaura.
